Go Green, Save Money & Energy

Protecting the Environment While Protecting Your Car, Home, or Office

Knowledge is Power
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, there are a few changes you can make to reduce green house and gas emissions, thus helping create a healthier footprint on earth as well as saving you money, energy and preserving the longevity of your car, home and office interior:

  • Change five lights to ENERGY STAR
  • Look for ENERGY STAR label products (such as Xpel films that we use to install on residential windows)
  • Heat and cool smartly (have Integrity Window Tinting install film on your windows!)
  • Seal and insulate your home
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle

Conserve Energy Through Your Windows
Did you know that your home or office can be a greater source of pollution than your car? 11% of US Greenhouse Gas Emissions are generated from the energy used in commercial buildings and residential housing nationwide. Energy used in our home and office often comes from the burning of fossil fuels at power plants, which contributes to smog, acid rain and global warming. The less energy we use in our home and office, the less air pollution we generate. Simply put, the less we use our air conditioner, the less energy we use.

Windows can cause a loss of energy. According to the US Department of Energy, windows in our homes and offices cause a source of light, warmth and ventilation, but can also negatively impact a home or office energy efficiency. Windows may be your home or office’s largest cause of energy loss. Glass is porous and you loose three times as much energy through the glass in your windows as you loose from leakage around the frames and sash. You will still lose energy with
them in two major ways:

  • Conduction or the direct transmission of heat through your window panes by the sun’s infrared light.
  • Radiation or the movement of energy through space. Windows store heat and radiate it towards the inside or outside of the pane, as appropriate.

There are ways of improving the energy efficiency of your windows. One of the ways most popular ways people choose is to add window treatments or coverings. However blinds and draperies block the suns light (and your view) but will absorb the heat from the sun through clear glass and re radiate it into the room. This radiant heat can be 15 times greater than the heat being conducted from the warm outside air. We have all sat next to a window with blinds or drapes and still felt the heat radiating through the glass. Not to mention how blinds and curtains attract dust and dirt that we continuously have to clean to prevent allergies.

Clear glass (including double pane/ insulating glass) permits almost all of the suns infrared and radiant heat into the interior. And dyed glass, also called privacy glass, provides just as little protection than clear class. Dyed glass can actually make your interior hotter by absorbing heat and transmitting it into the interior. This effect is similar to wearing a black shirt outdoors. The darkness actually attracts heat. The problem is when it is hot outdoors and there is not a breeze to carry away the absorbed condensed heat, the protection from dyed glass is very low. The difference from wearing a black shirt outside while standing in direct sunlight verses standing under a shade tree with a black shirt. It’s still very hot.

So what does all this mean and how can our window tint film help you Go Green?
The most effective way to manage the unwanted amount of solar heat gain that enters your home, office or vehicle is to block it before it gets in. Not to mention how the sun’s ultraviolet rays cause skin cancer and fades the interior of your car, home or office’s inventory and furnishings but that’s a whole other subject. Our energy saving window film eases the operating load on your air conditioning unit by blocking the solar heat gain into the interior which in turn allows you to run your air conditioner less. Our window film also blocks cold winter outside air from penetrating through your glass windows and blocks the heat created by your furnace from escaping through the glass. Again, reducing the amount of time you use your furnace. The less you use your air conditioner and furnace, the more energy you save. If we all used our air conditioners and heaters less in our home, office and vehicle, the environmental foot print would be significantly less than what it is today.
